This project consists of two 10 bed aged care “houses” added to the existing Pennwood Village 60 bed facility, bringing the number of houses to 8 and the capacity to 80 beds. Bohdan Dorniak & Co Pty Ltd have been involved in the design of the previous two houses with all to match the existing architectural style created some 15 years ago.

Given the tight site and requirements to seamlessly fit with the remainder of the houses, entertainment facilities and kitchen, the design incorporated covered walkways, ramps and landscaping. The continuous development of the Pennwood Village is based on the motto of “Providing quality care with European flair”. The new houses incorporated areas for outdoor dining and entertainment with the new “Kafana” and seating throughout the landscaped gardens designed by Designwell.
The memory support dementia house has been designed to create a secure environment, with lots of natural light, large opening skylights in the central “street” corridor. Design principles included: safety for residents and staff, wayfinding and signage, accessibility, comfort through noise reduction and temperature control through well designed air conditioning, good illumination and selection of internal materials and finishes through interior design.
