PROJECT DETAILS
Location: Norwood
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN BRIEF
Stage 1 in 2017 involved repairing existing gutters, roof, and repointing of existing chimney
Stage 2 involved an extension to the rear of the building and internal alterations.
The extension includes a new living area, airlock entry to existing cellar, and a kitchen/butler’s pantry. The new internal spaces are seamlessly connected to a landscaped outdoor area and external pergola.
A core objective of the brief was to ensure the contemporary addition was sympathetic to the original bluestone building in its materiality and form. We worked closely with heritage consultants throughout the project, who advised on the design of the addition and restoration work to the existing. The contemporary design of the addition deliberately contrasts with the bluestone building, with minimal alterations to the external façade where the new connects with the existing. Internally, the bluestone walls remain exposed and are a central feature of the design.
CONSTRUCTION
High quality craftsmanship, detailed documentation, and good consultation with both our client and contractor throughout construction have ensured the contemporary architectural addition is of the highest quality.
